Phoenix Teams With ZF Linux Devices Targeting Embedded Appliance Market
World's leading BIOS to be bundled with ZF's MachZ FailSafe PC-on-a-Chip

New York, NY, June 26, 2000

ZF Linux Devices, a provider of Open Architecture X86 hardware and Open Source Linux operating system software today announced an alliance with Phoenix Technologies to bundle the PhoenixBIOSô with the MachZ, the first FailSafe PC-on-a-Chip. The association with Phoenix is the latest effort in ZF's ongoing strategy to develop strategic relationships with the top software vendors in the embedded market in order to bring world-class solutions to developers of post-PC era Internet connected devices.

Phoenix Technologies, the global leader in system-enabling software solutions for PCs and connected devices is designed into more than 70 million PCs sold annually, as well as embedded systems and information appliances. "As the leading supplier of standards-based compatibility software to virtually every major PC systems manufacturer, we are continually extending the performance and adding to functionality of our BIOS software," said Steve Andler, vice president of marketing at Phoenix Technologies. "These enhancements enable our customers to bring their products to market in the embedded market faster with features that will generate increased end-user demand."

The relationship between ZF and Phoenix, dramatically improves the compatibility and reliability of the MachZ PC-on-a-Chip. By bundling a fully ported Phoenix BIOS with the FailSafe MachZ PC-on-a-Chip, technical porting problems are resolved and time to market is dramatically reduced. Costs associated with the BIOS license are transparent to customers as the royalties of the Phoenix code are prepaid by ZF Linux Devices.

"The MachZ PC-on-a-Chip is the first auto-booting PC-on-a-Chip containing the full functionality of a single board computer in a 388BGA package. It's FailSafe system architecture is crash-immune and is the only System-on-a-Chip that comes bundled with a full Phoenix BIOS and Linux O/S or WindRiver VxWorks RTOS," states David Feldman, ZF Linux Devices president.
